Uplands Outreach Communications Manager Uplands is an Anglican, co-educational, innovative independent school located on an extensive estate in White River, close to the Kruger National Park. We are committed to providing quality education to day- and boarding pupils ranging from Grade 0000 to 12. Uplands is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Southern Africa (ISASA) and the Anglican Board of Education of South Africa (ABESA) and offers examinations set by the Independent Examination Board (IEB). Uplands Outreach seeks to appoint an accomplished, thoughtful and highly capable Communications Manager to lead its internal and external communications. This is a hands-on, manager-level role for a strong storyteller who can translate educational impact, evidence and data into clear, credible and engaging communication for diverse audiences. Key responsibilities: Strategic communications and brand stewardship. Donor, partner and stakeholder communication. Impact storytelling, reporting and content. Digital communications, media and campaigns. Strategic direction and oversight of organisational communications. Qualifications and experience: A relevant Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Media Studies or a related field. At least eight years’ relevant professional experience in communications, public relations, journalism or marketing, with demonstrated responsibility for complex projects and/or team leadership. Experience in the education, development or non-profit sector will be advantageous; strong candidates from a corporate or agency environment will also be considered. A proven record of producing excellent written content and reports for different audiences, particularly senior stakeholders, partners or funders. • Strong working knowledge of digital communication, social media management, website content management, email communication and audience analytics. Competence in graphic design and content-production tools such as Canva and/or Adobe Creative Cloud; photography and video-production experience will be advantageous. A valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to programme and partner-school sites as required. Skills and personal attributes: Exceptional English writing, editing, proofreading and verbal communication skills. The ability to turn programme information, evidence and data into meaningful stories without losing accuracy or context. Strategic thinking combined with a practical, hands-on approach to delivery. Excellent planning, organisation and deadline-management skills, with the ability to manage several priorities at once. Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to engage respectfully with donors, senior leaders, staff, programme participants, partners and service providers. Sound judgement, discretion, cultural awareness and a firm commitment to ethical storytelling and confidentiality. A collaborative, solutions-focused and supportive leadership style. Creativity, initiative, resilience and meticulous attention to detail. A willingness to work occasionally evenings or weekends when required for events or deadlines.
