Key performance areas Diagnostic Testing Service Delivery Perform NPOC testing directly on specimens according to protocol, ensuring accessibility and timeliness of services. Device Operation, Maintenance & Consumables Management Keep NPOC devices functional and adequately stocked for uninterrupted daily testing. Infection Prevention, Safety & Compliance Ensure testing is conducted safely for both participants and staff and in compliance with facility and study standards. Site-Level Quality Control Perform routine quality control (QC) checks on testing processes to identify and correct errors before they affect test results. Documentation & Record-Keeping at Point of Care Ensure all participant information, test details, results, and observations are recorded in the appropriate source documents at the time of testing. Effective self-management and performance ownership Requirements and minimum education and training Grade 12. Biology/Life Science. Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities • Comfortable working with potentially infectious biological specimens while adhering to all biosafety and infection prevention protocols. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Requirements of the job • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and after-hours as required by study or operational needs. • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and challenging clinical or research environment. • Comfortable handling potentially infectious biological specimens while strictly adhering to infection prevention, biosafety, and study protocols. • Highly motivated, reliable, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. • Organized, systematic, and professional, with excellent time management and attention to detail. • Ability to prioritize competing tasks, multitask efficiently, and consistently meet study timelines and operational deadlines. • Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability, and commitment to maintaining high-quality clinical research standards. Required minimum work experience • Prior experience performing diagnostic or point-of-care testing in a clinical or healthcare setting. • Experience working in Good Clinical Practice (GCP)-compliant clinical research. • Knowledge of specimen collection, handling, transport, and storage procedures. • Understanding infection prevention and control measures, including biosafety practices for handling potentially infectious specimens. • Experience with accurate data capture using paper source documents and/or electronic data capture systems (e.g., REDCap). • Knowledge of participant confidentiality requirements and compliance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) and applicable regulatory guidelines. • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), study protocols, and quality management requirements.
