Through our Future Teachers Academy (FTA) , we provide aspiring teachers with the opportunity to gain meaningful, practical experience in a supportive school environment while completing their university studies. We are seeking an innovative, creative, dedicated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about education and eager to develop as a future teacher. The FTA provides an opportunity to connect university learning with the realities of life in a school, while developing practical teaching skills, confidence and a strong professional identity. WHAT THE FTA OFFERS STUDY Receive a contribution towards university fees and books, together with sufficient time to focus on your studies. MENTORSHIP Learn alongside experienced teachers and benefit from guidance, support and regular professional development. EXPERIENCE Gain practical Foundation Phase classroom experience and become actively involved in teaching and learning, with opportunities to contribute to academics, sport and creative arts. DEVELOP Take part in WPPS’s internally designed teacher preparation programme, which is designed to develop your practical teaching skills and confidence. BELONG Become part of the life of a vibrant school community and gain valuable experience beyond the classroom. AS AN FTA STUDENT TEACHER, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO: Gain practical Foundation Phase classroom experience. Work alongside experienced teachers and receive mentorship. Develop your classroom teaching and professional skills. Contribute to academics, sport and creative arts. Participate in professional development opportunities. Develop an understanding of assessment and school administration. Support school activities and after-school events. Balance practical school experience with your university studies. WHO CAN APPLY? You would be eligible to apply if you are: Currently studying towards a BEd degree, or An undergraduate student studying towards a PGCE , and Enrolled at a SAQA-accredited institution . Experience or an interest in coaching sport or creative arts would be an advantage. ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES The successful candidate may also assist with: Examination-related administration, including reading and scribing. Formal assessment reading and scribing, with training funded by WPPS. Ad hoc support for after-school events. Boarding House duties, only if accommodation is provided on campus. The FTA is an opportunity to begin developing your professional identity as a teacher while you are still studying , gaining practical experience that complements your university education.
