FOUNDATION PHASE AFRIKAANS TEACHER Starting Date: 1 January 2027 Pridwin Preparatory School is a leading boys’ preparatory school situated in Melrose, Johannesburg. Pridwin provides a dynamic and engaging learning environment and prepares boys for entry into leading high schools in South Africa and abroad. We are seeking to appoint an experienced and passionate Afrikaans specialist teacher whose primary responsibility will be the teaching of Afrikaans First Additional Language in Grades 0–3. While the initial focus of the position is within the Foundation Phase, applicants must have the subject knowledge, teaching ability and confidence to teach Afrikaans across the primary school should this be required in the future. This is a specialist Afrikaans teaching position and does not involve responsibility for teaching the general Foundation Phase curriculum. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS The successful candidate must: Hold a suitable professional teaching qualification. Be registered with SACE. Have the ability and appropriate subject knowledge to teach Afrikaans First Additional Language from Grade 0 to Grade 4. Demonstrate a strong understanding of how Afrikaans should be taught as an additional language, particularly to younger learners. Be able to create engaging, age-appropriate lessons that develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing Afrikaans. Have a sound understanding of appropriate teaching, assessment and differentiation strategies. Be able to accommodate different learning needs and levels of language proficiency within the classroom. Have excellent spoken and written Afrikaans, as well as strong English communication skills. Be organised, reliable and administratively competent. Be comfortable integrating appropriate technology and resources into teaching and learning. Relate positively to boys and contribute meaningfully to the broader life of the school. Experience teaching Afrikaans across more than one primary-school phase will be a distinct advantage. The ability and willingness to contribute to the school’s sporting or co-curricular programme would be advantageous, but is not a prerequisite for appointment.
