Fieldworker Supervisor

Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of the Witwatersrand. The Wits Health Consortium will only respond to shortlisted candidates. Key performance area • Support the set-up and configuration of the monitoring programme in collaboration with the research team. • Train field-based monitoring staff on relevant protocols and procedures, and provide ongoing guidance as required. • Assist with instrument preparation, including calibration and quality checks prior to field deployment. • Carry out periodic filter changes for particulate matter samplers in a laboratory setting, in accordance with study protocols. • Provide remote support to field staff and, where necessary, attend field sites to assist with technical matters. • Assist with data extraction and management from monitoring equipment as needed. • Contribute to study documentation, reporting, and related research activities as directed by the Principal Investigator. Required minimum education and training Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Engineering, or a related field. Required minimum work experience Previous experience in air quality monitoring, environmental field research, or a related technical discipline. Experience in training or supervising technical or field-based staff. Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities • Good interpersonal skills, self-motivated, organized, meticulous and punctual. • Ability to prioritize own workload to meet deadlines • Able to maintain confidentiality and act tactfully. • Previous experience in fieldwork, data collection, community engagement, or research projects is preferred. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse community members. • Fluency in English is required. Based in Johannesburg, this role focuses on ensuring that monitoring activities are correctly set up, that field staff are appropriately trained, and that support is available as needed throughout the life of the study. Regular field visits are not expected, though some site attendance may be required, particularly during the initial set-up phase.
