Job description: The Broker Consultant is responsible for developing, managing, and growing relationships with allocated brokers to achieve profitable premium growth, increased market penetration, and strong retention outcomes. The role requires proactive business development, broker engagement, portfolio management, product training, and effective execution of the company's distribution strategy while adhering to internal governance, compliance standards, and service level commitments. Responsibilities: Broker Relationship Management Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with allocated brokers. Conduct regular broker visits and engagements in accordance with agreed contact strategies. Serve as the primary point of contact between brokers and the business. Identify broker needs and opportunities to strengthen business partnerships. Ensure a high level of broker satisfaction through effective service and support. Business Development & Growth Drive profitable premium growth within the allocated broker portfolio. Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities through existing and prospective brokers. Develop and execute broker-specific growth plans aligned with company objectives. Increase product penetration across allocated broker accounts. Promote the company's value proposition, products, and solutions within the broker market. Portfolio Management Monitor broker production, growth, retention, and profitability. Analyse portfolio performance and implement corrective measures where required. Manage renewal retention and support initiatives aimed at improving policy persistency. Ensure business written aligns with underwriting appetite and target market. Work closely with underwriting teams to optimise growth opportunities while maintaining portfolio quality. Broker Training & Product Support Conduct product, system, and sales training for brokers. Educate brokers on policy wordings, product features, underwriting appetite, and competitive advantages. Assist brokers with technical product queries and business development opportunities. Ensure brokers remain informed regarding product enhancements, process changes, and market developments. Compliance, Quality & Governance Conduct all activities in accordance with FAIS, TCF, POPIA, and company governance requirements. Ensure all broker interactions and business development activities are conducted ethically and professionally. Maintain accurate records of broker engagements, opportunities, and activities. Adhere to all reporting requirements, internal processes, and departmental standards. Collaboration & Team Dynamics Foster a positive and collaborative working environment. Work closely with Underwriting, Claims, Operations, and Distribution teams to support broker needs. Share market intelligence, competitive insights, and broker feedback with relevant stakeholders. Participate in business improvement and strategic distribution initiatives. Minimum requirements: Grade 12 (Matric) RE5 Valid South African driver's licence. Own reliable and roadworthy vehicle. Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience as a Broker Consultant within the short-term insurance industry. Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in short-term insurance underwriting, preferably within personal lines with an insurer, underwriting manager (UMA), or intermediary environment. Advantageous: NQF4 in Short-term Insurance or equivalent Experience in High-Net-Worth (HNW) Personal Lines insurance Competencies: Strong knowledge of short-term insurance products, underwriting principles, and broker distribution channels. Proven business development and sales capability. Ability to analyse portfolios and identify growth opportunities. Sound understanding of FAIS, TCF, and POPIA requirements. Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Strong commercial acumen with analytical problem-solving ability. Effective planning, time management, and ability to perform in a target-driven environment.
